Born and raised in Detroit , Michigan the Motor city, Motown, The Detroit Pistons, Billy Sims and Barry Sanders, Hockey Town the Red Wings and the murder capital. I moved to St. Louis,Mo at age 25 and later to Cleveland,Ohio home of the Championship winning Cavs.
Here is why I care
Business man at age 22, owner of a barbershop/beautysalon 20 years ago that was very successful. Life long entrepreneur and goal chaser made his first motivational tape at age 24.
Image me at the age of 20 years old and receiving a phone out of my sleep with a voice from an older gentleman asking for my father's name. In a sleepy voice I told the man he's not here and he then asked for his spouse and my mother was not home. With a calm straight forward voice he told me my father had been killed in a car accident the day before. Picture me jumping to my feet with my hand that is holding the phone shacking uncontrollably. He told me to have my mother to call him to identify him. Hanging the phone up bursting into tears my first thought was you left me.
My beautiful family came into town instantly and we went to identify him. The image is so vivid to this day. His head wrapped in a white sheet and face with this memory staining look of disappointment, a sad frown. He must have known it was the end. The thing is he didn't die from a car accident ,he was shot and killed . The guy on the phone was wrong. When I went to view him, he had a very disappointed look on his face. He knew! He was my King!
I vowed at some point after seeing my dad's face, that I wound not let my disappointments be my end and my end be a disappointment. I chose with my free will that I controlled my destiny and chose to help others. From my youthful unscraped appearance I don't show disappointments, I show my winning spirit, my true me.
